Fresh off Julianne Hough’s casting as Jolene in Netflix’s upcoming Dolly Parton anthology series Heartstrings, another actress is joining the ranks. Once Upon a Time alum Ginnifer Goodwin has been cast in one of the season’s eight-episodes, which finds each installment telling the story of a song by the iconic country singer.
According to TVLine, who broke the casting news, Goodwin will be appearing the episode titled “These Old Bones” as Genevieve, a determined D.C. lawyer who returns to her small Smoky Mountain hometown in the 1940s to prove herself professionally.”
Kathleen Turner, who earned an Oscar nomination for her role in Peggy Sue Got Married, will be playing “a mysterious old mountain woman (who locals believe to be a fortune teller) who threatens a lumber company’s business, leading to a test of faith and shocking secrets from the past.” Casual’s Kyle Bornheimer will be playing a character named Landon. In addition to guest-starring in some episodes of Heartstrings, Parton will also introduce each episode with a brief history about the song the episode follows.
“These Old Bones” appeared on Parton’s 2002 album Halos & Horns, which was nominated for three Grammy Awards including Best Country Album and Best Female Country Vocal Performance for “Dagger Through the Heart,” and in 2003 for Best Country Vocal Performance for “I’m Gone.”
Earlier this year Goodwin was cast to star in a new ABC comedy called Steps, which follows a new kind of modern family, revolving around “four adults in three houses who raise three kids after two divorces together.” The series brings her back to ABC where she spent six years playing Mary Margaret Blanchard on Once Upon a Time. Other credits for Goodwin include Zootopia, Killing Kennedy, Something Borrowed, and He’s Just Not That Into You.
Heartstrings is scheduled to hit Netflix sometime in 2019!
