Take a Peek at HBO’s ‘Watchmen’ Series
The iconic late 80’s HBO’s comic series Watchmen by Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons has long posed a conundrum. The word ‘watchmen’ only appears in the comic as a question that is asked.
The question “Who watches Watchmen?” is posed by graffiti in New York City. The question is being asked now again.
In a recent Instagram post by the series, a mysterious character in police officer garb and a yellow face mask stands in the smokey shadows. The moving picture is captioned with the iconic phrase.

For those who do not know the Watchmen story, it is about superheroes failing at what they do best, and also raises the question, “Who protects the heroes who protect us?”
Superhero Rorschach is the person investigating and calling cards in his face-mask filled with his moving inkblots. The original story of Watchmen sets out to uncover why superheroes are being mysteriously murdered. The investigator seeks to establish the motive of the killings and is planned to happen next.
Showrunner Damon Lindelof while explaining to fans wrote,
Some of the characters will be unknown. New faces. New masks to cover them.
This means that we are seeing a brand new character here, most likely. The symbolic yellow color is still very present here though. The series’ most distinguishable symbol is a yellow smiley face button, smeared with blood.
The comic gives a reason why superheroes had gone out of style. The police were infuriated by superheroes and were the reason why the government to pass an anti-vigilante bill, so their role in the series is important.
Watchmen will premiere on HBO in 2019.
