A Series of Unfortunate Events season 3 will be the final season for the Baudelaire Orphans.
Season 3 will adapt the final four books, The Slippery Slope, The Grim Grotto, The Penultimate Peril, and The End.
Show runner Barry Sonnenfeld promises that the ending will not disappoint as he as author Daniel Handler not only will stay true to the novels, but will also expand upon them.
“When you see ‘The End’, you’ll think that it’s what Daniel always had in mind, though it’s not,” Sonnenfeld says. “It wraps up in such a strong way that you may think we came up with the idea at the beginning of the first season.”
Here are some first look photos from season 3.
“Those kids were troopers because it was hot in those outfits,” Sonnenfeld adds. “Presley [Sunny] had to wear this very hot, big, heavy outfit that we had to add monofilament to and hold them up, just because they couldn’t take the weight of the helmet they were wearing and the suit that they were wearing.”
At the conclusion of season 2, we were introduced to Lemony Snicket’s sister, Kit. Sonnenfeld promises that Kit, played by Allison Williams, will play a bigger role than she did in the books.
In season 3, Esmé and Count Olaf take in Carmelita Spats.
“The great thing about Esmé is that she somehow, off camera, has the best hair stylist, the best makeup people, and the best wardrobe people,” says Sonnenfeld. “So those tentacles you’re seeing are actually inflatable. They were designed and inflated so that they would be erect like that and not just flopped down. They were horribly squeaky.”
As for Count Olaf, Neil Patrick Harris’ portrayal is “scarier, a little more unhinged, a little bit harder to reason with,” says Sonnenfeld. “I just loved that he had this demonic look.”
Sonnenfeld adds that this final season will be “the most emotional season yet.”
A Series of Unfortunate Events will launch in early 2019 on Netflix.
