Disney Discussing a Possible ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’ Reboot with ‘Deadpool’ Writers

Yo ho! Yo ho! Disney’s Pirates of the Caribbean may be getting a fresh take from the team that brought you Deadpool. Yes, we’re serious.

According to Deadline, Disney is in the midst of exploring a potential reboot of the beloved films and is reportedly in early negotiations with the writing team of Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick to write the script.

If we’re being honest, this doesn’t sound all that bad. While the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise already has five films over the course of 14 years (with the most recent premiering just last year in 2017), a fresh take on the films could be a breath of fresh air. Reese and Wernick were behind the first two Deadpool films and, prior to those, wrote the cult smash hit Zombieland. They are also signed on for the Zombieland sequel.

Deadline does say that talks are in the early stages, so very few details are ironed out or set in stone, however, they do report that Jerry Bruckheimer would be back for the rebooted version of the Pirates of the Caribbean franchiseCasting for the film is not yet known and it’s not clear whether or not Pirates staples such as Johnny Depp, Jeffrey Rush, Orlando Bloom, and Keira Knightly would be involved.

What do you think about a possible reboot of Disney’s Pirates of the Caribbean franchise? Do you think the writers of Deadpool could breath new life into the films and bring them to a new level? Let us know your thoughts in the comment section below.
