ABC Orders Additional Scripts for ‘A Million Little Things,’ ‘The Kids Are Alright’ and More

If you’ve been enjoying some of ABC’s new television programming, we’ve got some great news for you! It looks like there will be more of some of the network’s newest shows for viewers to enjoy.

ABC has officially ordered three additionally scripts for new episodes from three of it’s newly premiered shows, and one second-year hit. On the list for additional scripts is the networks new dramedy A Million Little Things, Michael Cudlitz’s new sitcom The Kids Are Alright, Nathan Fillion’s new drama The Rookie and Jenna Fisher’s sophomore year romantic comedy Splitting Up Together.

A Million Little Things features a monstrous ensemble cast including David Giuntoli, Ron Livingston, Romany Malco, and James Roday and has been dubbed ABC’s version of This Is Us. The series premiered in September with favorable ratings and a warm reception from viewers. It posted a 1.1 rating with 5.4 million viewers during its premiere.

The Kids Are Alright is an ensemble comedy set in the 1970’s. The series follows a traditional Irish-Catholic family, the Clearys, as they navigate big and small changes during one of America’s most turbulent decade. From writer and executive producer Tim Doyle, the series stars The Walking Dead‘s Michael Cudlitz, Mary McCormack, Sam Straley, Caleb Martin Foote, Sawyer Barth, Christopher Paul Richards, Jack Gore, Andy Walken, and Santino Barnard. The series premiered with decent ratings posting a 1.4 rating and 6.6 million viewers.

The Rookie stars Castle alum Nathan Fillion as John Nolan who, after a life-altering incident, is pursuing his dream of being a police officer and becomes force’s oldest rookie. The series debuted last week and posted ABC’s strongest drama debut in the Tuesday 10 pm timeslot in over seven years. The series posted a 1.6 rating with 8.6 million viewers after the three days delayed ratings were added.

Finally, Splitting Up Together debuted its second season stars The Office‘s Jenna Fisher and Oliver Hudson as a divorced couple living in the same house trying to continue to raise their family as a team. The series posted a 0.6 rating with 3.3 million viewers for the season two premiere.

All in all, the additional three scripts ordered show a vote of confidence from ABC in these series. As Deadline reports, often additional scripts are ordered to keep the writers’ room active while final decisions are made regarding which new series would receive an order for additional episodes or an extended season.
