Well folks, after ten years The Passage is finally making its way to screens. Fox has just announced that the long-awaited drama will serve as a midseason entry with its series premiere airing on Monday, January 14th at 9/8c.

The series, which is based on Justin Cronin’s book trilogy, is described by Fox as “an epic, character-driven thriller about a secret government medical facility experimenting with a dangerous virus that could either cure all disease or cause the downfall of the human race.” The series focuses on a 10-year-old girl named Amy Bellafonte, who is chosen to be a test subject for this experiment, and Brad Wolgast, the federal agent who becomes her surrogate father as he tries to protect her.

Saved by the Bell and Franklin & Bash’s Mark-Paul Gosselaar will star as Brad Wolgast and  Saniyya Sidney will star as Amy Bellafonte. In addition, Lost’s Henry Ian Cusick, Vincent Piazza, Brianne Howey, Jamie McShane, Caroline Chikezie, and Emmanuelle Chriqui will also star.

You can watch the trailer for the series below!

Friday Night Lights’ Liz Heldens will write and Jason Ensler will direct the pilot. Marcos Siega, who directed the pilot shot last year will also be credited as a director. Matt Reeves, Ridley Scott, David W. Zucker, and Adam Kassan will produce.

The Passage first found its way to Hollywood when the film rights were purchased in 2007 (before the book was even published) with hopes be a trilogy directed by Matt Reeves. However, it was later decided that the story was better suited for a series and a pilot was shot for Fox last year. Again, that did not quite pan out and the network ultimately passed. Then in 2018, Fox decided to give the pilot another shot with a new script, director, and some recasting – and that’s when they finally found their winner.

Are you going to be tuning into The Passage? Were you a fan of the book series? Let us know! The Passage premieres on FOX on Monday, January 14th and 9/8c.

Having studied Media & Writing at James Madison University, I always knew that I wanted to do some type of creative writing, but being able to write about zombies, Starks, and superheroes on a daily basis for Fan Fest is my actual dream. While I probably shouldn't be as proud as I am to be so similar to Nick Miller, I do hope to one day write my own "Pepperwood Chronicles'.
