‘Wonder Woman 1984’ Premiere Date Pushed Back to 2020

Moviegoers are going to have to wait a little longer to see Wonder Woman return to the big screen. The release date for the highly-anticipated sequel Wonder Woman 1984 has been pushed back to 2020.

The film was originally announced as receiving an earlier release date of November 1, 2019, however, star Gal Gadot announced the new release date on Monday via her social media accounts. Wonder Woman 1984 will now be flying into theaters on June 5, 2020, the same timing in which the first film premiered. Gadot tweeted, “Super excited to announce that, thanks to the changing landscape, we are able to put Wonder Woman back to its rightful home. June 5, 2020. Be there or be square!!!” Check out her tweet below.

After Gadot’s tweet hit the internet, Warner Bros. president of domestic distribution Jeff Goldstein said in a statement, “We had tremendous success releasing the first Wonder Woman film during the summer, so when we saw an opportunity to take advantage of the changing competitive landscape, we did. This move lands the film exactly where it belongs.”

The “competitive landscape” is most likely referring to the date shuffling currently being done by Marvel and Disney. Just recently, Disney’s Dwayne Johnson flick Jungle Book was pushed back and, of course, we have the whole Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3 debacle which is still playing out. As of right now, thanks to its new date, Wonder Woman 1984 currently has the first weekend in June 2020 to herself.

Wonder Woman 1984 is propelling the titular superhero into the world of the 1980’s where she will face an all-new villain; Cheetah (played by Kristen Wiig. In addition to Gadot and Wiig, the film also stars Pedro Pascal and will see Chris Pine returning to reprise his role as Steve Trevor.

Patty Jenkins returns to direct and produce the sequel film along with Charles Roven, Deborah Snyder, Zack Snyder, Stephen Johns and Gadot producing as well. Rebecca Roven Oakley, Richard Suckle, Wesley Coller, Geoff Johns, and Walter Hamada are the executive producers.

Wonder Woman 1984 will now hit theaters on June 5, 2020.
