Fox Moves Release Dates for ‘Alita’, ‘Dark Phoenix’, ‘Deadpool 2’ Re-release, and ‘Gambit’ Takes up the Rear

Recently Fox announced release date changes for several of its upcoming films, including Alita: Battle Angel, a PG-13 version of Deadpool 2 and Gambit.

Alita: Battle Angel is scheduled to be released on February 14th, 2019, opposed to the earlier announcement of Dec. 21, while Deadpool 2 takes her original December 21st, 2018 opening.

Alita is being moved because of issues with dates, not because of post-production. The film’s visual effects are already completed.

In addition, X-Men Dark Phoenix won’t premiere on February 14th as announced before. It’s been pushed all the way to June 7th, 2019 on the screens originally reserved for Gambit. Fox has revealed this after the launch of the trailer starring Sophie Turner, which was viewed over 8 million times on the Fox YouTube channel. The filmmakers not only believe that summer is the right time, but June gives the film a clear shot to have a bigger opening in China. The reason why they are targeting China, is that the trailer received more than 44 million views there within 24 hours of the trailer dropping.

That all being said, Channing Tatum’s Gambit now movies from the June 2019 date, to March 13th, 2020. it’s much further behind in production than originally anticipated. With no director signed on yet, and the script stil lin development by Reid Carolin and Joshua Zetumer, they decided the reserved 2020 date would be best. Channing Tatum is still also attached to the project. Dark Phoenix will rival Illumination/Uni’s The Secret Life of Pets 2 and Lionsgate’s comedy Flarsky.

Also, the film Gambit is moved from June 7 to March 13, 2020. The film is still in development with no director yet, and Channing Tatum still attached. Currently, Reid Carolin and Joshua Zetumer are still working on the script. There may be some new footage for the safer rated Deadpool 2, but Fox has not confirmed.
