If The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel’s total Emmy Award domination proves anything to Amazon, it’s that viewers are loving strong female-led stories. The streaming network clearly took note as it has just ordered an adaption of the popular Robert Jordan fantasy novels The Wheel of Time to series, which puts women on the front lines as all magical powers are only bestowed onto them.
Here is the official project synopsis:
Aside from the synopsis, there is no word yet as to how many episodes Amazon ordered and when they are expected to premiere, but Amazon is certainly excited about the venture of bringing the 14 novel series to life.
Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D and Chuck writer Rafe Judkins will serve as both showrunner and executive producer for The Wheel of Time.
Jordan published his first Wheel of Time novel, The Eye of the World, way back in 1990 and continued the series for 10 more novels until his death in 2007. After his passing, fellow fantasy author Brandon Sanderson stepped in to complete the series’ final novels with the last installment, A Memory of Light, being published in 2013.
