The 2018 Arrowverse Crossover Event Gets an Official Name

Fans of the comics might recognize the implications behind the name ‘Elseworlds,’ which is the classification given to the comics that exist outside of the regular DC Universe canon. The most well-known example of this is Gotham by Gaslight, which features a Victorian-era steampunk-like Gotham City and Batman, who faces off against Jack the Ripper (and was recently turned into an animated film). There were several titles published under ‘Elseworlds’ from 1989 to 2003.

The Multiverse is well-established within the Arrowverse, so it doesn’t come as a big surprise that we’ll once more be traversing the different universes for this year’s crossover. It’s the easiest way to incorporate a new character without having to explain why nobody really knew she existed before now.

The crossover event will find Green Arrow, Flash, and Supergirl traveling to Gotham City in order to help Batwoman with a problem at Arkham Asylum. Ruby Rose was announced to play Kate Kane, aka Batwoman, and the crossover will potentially set up a television series of her very own. Joining our three main Arrowverse protagonists will be the Man of Steel himself, Superman, as it was announced that Tyler Hoechlin would reprise his role for the three-night event.

The 2018 Arrowverse crossover kicks off Sunday, December 9, with The Flash, continuing Monday, December 10, on Arrow, and finally concluding Tuesday, December 11, on Supergirl.
