You Can Soon Visit the ‘Game of Thrones’ Sets Through HBO’s New Legacy Experiences in Northern Ireland
HBO’s Game of Thrones may be coming to end, but the show’s legacy will live on in the hearts of its fans and now, in the hands the show’s former filming locations.
On Monday, HBO announced its plan to transform several of the show’s Northern Ireland filming sites into tourist attractions devoted to the series. The new plan is being called Game of Thrones Legacy and will allow fans, for the first time ever, to visit the show’s sets and to fully experience the world of Westeros live and in person.
According to the press release from HBO, in addition to being able to access the breathtaking film sets and locations, actual costumes, props, weapons, decorations, models, art files and other production materials will all be on display çreating a fully immersive experience. Each site will be equipped with state-of-the-art digital content and interactive materials which will only enrich the wonder that Westeros has to offer.
Jeff Peters, Vice President, Licensing and Retail, HBO said in a statement:

We look forward to opening the gates and sharing the excitement of stepping inside these amazing sets with Game of Thrones fans from around the world. The opportunity to celebrate Northern Ireland’s pivotal role in the life and legacy of the show and share its culture, beauty, and warmth is also a huge inspiration behind these Legacy projects.”[/row]
John McGrillen, Chief Executive of Tourism Northern Ireland added:

The Game of Thrones Legacy project will be a game changer for Northern Ireland on the global tourism level. We very much welcome this exciting announcement by HBO and look forward to welcoming many more visitors to our beautiful country as a result.”[/row]
Just which iconic locations will be included has yet to be determined, but HBO is considering Winterfell, Castle Black, and Kings Landing alongside a formal studio tour of Linen Mill Studios.
The tentative open date for the locations would be at some point in 2019. The final season of Game of Thrones will also be airing at some point during 2019.
