Shadowhunters Star Katherine McNamara Joins Arrow Season 7 in Recurring Role

It was announced yesterday that Shadowhunters‘ Katherine McNamara had been cast in a recurring role for Season 7 of Arrow. Reports say McNamara will appear during the first half of the season as Maya, a street fighter and thief. The news comes three months after Freeform announced that the third season of Shadowhunters would be its last, with its final 12 episodes airing in 2019. McNamara can also be seen in the Maze Runner movie series and Happyland.

Considering how things stand following the Season 6 finale, it’s unclear if McNamara’s Maya will be an antagonist or join forces with the ragtag group of heroes who are left.

Season 7 of Arrow will find Oliver in prison following his decision to turn himself over in order to stop Ricardo Diaz (Kirk Acevedo). Oliver will have to work hard in order to win back the trust of his city, who now know he is the Green Arrow. According to showrunner Beth Schwartz, “Everyone’s got mixed opinions about him as a person, and he’s going to have to redeem himself through the season.”

McNamara joins the list of new actors to the series, joining Holly Elissa (Supernatural), Miranda Edwards (The Magicians), and Michael Jonsson (Syfy’s Van Helsing) who will make up the villainous Longbow Hunters. Returning faces include Colton Haynes as Roy Harper, Michael Jai White as Bronze Tiger, Cody Runnels as Derek Sampson, and Vinnie Jones as Brick.

Arrow kicks off its new season on a new night, Monday October 15, on The CW.
