The well known story about the boy and his black dragon in How to Train Your Dragon will likely be coming to an end with the How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World.

This third feature film will bring the trilogy to an end, and it will mark the end for the Netflix series, too. The journey will end with this final adventure.

The How to Train Your Dragon franchise is based on the series of children’s books by Cressida Cowell, and we always knew that it would soon come to an end, and that time has come. It features a young apprentice named Hiccup, who shoots down a rare Night Fury Dragon. He ends up setting it free only to realize its wounded. He names the dragon Toothless, and there the training journey begins.

The creators want the ending to be similar to that of the books the story was adapted from. This comes as sad news for fans who were hoping that the franchise would last a whole while longer due to the success they have met. Unfortunately, that is not being considered in this case.

The first two films saw a total of over $1 billion at the box office. Dreamworks’ Dean Debois commented on the end in an interview with EW.

“We thought about it for a long time and came up with what we think is a bittersweet way to say goodbye to these characters, but the right way. You will understand why Hiccup says, as you heard in the trailer, ‘There were dragons when I was a boy.’ And by the end of this film, you’ll have answered the question of what could have happened to them.”

It seems the story is safe in the hands of its creators, and we will finally know what really happens to the dragons. Keep your eyes peeled around the time of the Toronto Film Festival where we will likely see some more teasers. We still do not know much about the final film of the franchise, but we are hopeful that it will be packed with action. The filmmakers will be sharing some teasers to close the Toronto International Film Festival.

How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World will be in theaters on 1st March 2019, and we’ll be bringing our tissues to the theater for sure!
