Elizabeth Tulloch is ‘Supergirl’s new Lois Lane

NBC

The CW has officially cast Lois Lane, who will first appear in the large Arrowverse Crossover event this season!

Elizabeth Tulloch, known for her former role on Grimm will play opposite Tyler Hoechlin, who plays Superman on Supergirl. She will come in as his love interest for the three night event.

It will begin on Sunday December 9th with The Flash, and end on December 11th with Supergirl. Hoechlin will appear in all three episodes, but we aren’t sure if Tulloch’s Lois Lane will follow suit.

Hoechlin recently was asked about the new Lois Lane at Heroes & Villains Fan Fest New Jersey and he said he was just as excited to find out who it would be:

I don’t know anything about it. I don’t know who it is yet. But obviously it is exciting to have a lot of these characters pop up.

Now the waiting is over, and Tulloch expressed her sincere excitement on social media, saying she’s been a fan of Lois Lane since she began acting.

When I started acting, one of my teachers asked me to watch the screen tests for the role of Lois Lane for 1928’s Superman. All of the actresses were terrific, but it was always clear to me why Margot Kidder won the role: she seemed lit from within, full of joie de vivre. Now, at a time when the noble profession of journalism feels under siege, it’s a privilege to join the club of actresses who have played the dogged reporter.

Excuse me while I fangirl for a moment: I am so excited (thank you Warner Brothers, the CW, DC Comics, @gberlanti, @davidrapaport, Jessica Queller et al) to be playing the iconic Lois Lane on the Arrowverse crossover episodes. And I can’t wait to work with my friend @dpanabaker and of course @tylerhoechlin 😉 When I started acting, one of my teachers asked me to watch the screen tests for the role of Lois Lane for 1978’s Superman. All of the actresses were terrific, but it was always clear to me why Margot Kidder won the role: she seemed lit from within, full of joie de vivre. Now, at a time when the noble profession of journalism feels under siege, it’s a privilege to join the club of actresses who have played the dogged reporter. As far back as 1938 when she first appeared in Action Comics #1, Lois Lane has defied and subverted society’s expectations of how women should behave. She was portrayed as opinionated, inquisitive, and an unapologetically badass career woman at a time when many representations of women leaned more towards meek and demure. One of the reasons the character has remained so compelling for the last 80 years is that she has all these formidable, strong-willed qualities, but she’s also vulnerable, romantic, and feminine. A truly modern woman. ❤️

Journalist Lois Lane first appeared in the first issue starring the Man of Steel in 1938. She has been played by Noel Neill, Margot Kidder, Kate Bosworth and Amy Adams in past film versions of the story.  ABC’s Lois and Clark: The New Adventures of Superman actually premiered 25 years ago this week.

This year’s event will also be marked by the first appearance of another female DC character Batwoman, who will be played by Ruby Rose.

Tulloch starred on Grimm for six seasons, and she played opposite Tim Roth in the Cannes Film Festival’s Chronic. She also appeared  in Concussion with Alec Baldwin and Will Smith, as well as Parklan with Billy Bob Thornton.

She’s appeared on several other series including Quarterlife, Portlandia, House M.D. and The West Wing.
