New Assassin’s Creed Odyssey Trailer: Will You Choose a Path to Greatness or Ruin?

For the first time in an Assassin’s Creed game, the choices you make determine how events unfold. In a new trailer for the upcoming release of Assassin’s Creed Odyssey, players get a look at some of the decisions they will face. Each one will either lead you down a path to greatness or to ruin.

Right out of the gate, you have to decide who you will play the game as: Alexios or Kassandra. Ubisoft has asserted that this decision will not affect the outcome of the game itself, but it will be interesting to play through as each of them as they have different qualities. Alexios is geared for head-on conflict, while Kassandra is better suited for stealth.

Odyssey has caused a divide in the fandom as some think that it is not a true Assassin’s Creed game because there is a lack of, well, assassins. Ubisoft confirmed that the events of Odyssey take place before Origins, which gave rise to the Assassin order. In this new trailer, there’s a shot of Alexios sneaking through his surroundings and wearing an outfit that is similar to that worn by the Assassins. While Odyssey may not be a standard Creed game, core themes are definitely present. The most obvious is the idea of “order vs chaos.” What sets the Assassins and the Templars apart is how they choose to deal with chaos, how they choose to enact order. As Origins was an origin story for the Assassin Order, Odyssey might lay the groundwork for the Templars. Your choices could either lead you to acting in the way of the Assassins or the in the way of the Templars. It would be a cool twist on the traditional game, and Ubisoft is always pretty clever in how they create their games, and weave them together and throughout history.

We’ll have to wait and see how Odyssey will fit into the franchise, but regardless of all the mixed feelings, it looks like it’s going to be a fantastic game.

Assassin’s Creed Odyssey will be released Friday October, 5, on Playstation 4, Xbox One, and PC.
