Al Roker to join Broadway’s ‘Waitress’

Here’s what’s happening in your neck of the woods, Al Rocker is making his Broadway Debut in Waitress.

Roker is known as a core member of the Today Show where he made the delicious announcement.

Roker will take on the role of diner owner Joe, who is currently played by Bill Nolte, beginning October 5, playing a limited run at the Brooks Atkinson Theatre through November 11. Unfortunately, he will not be performing during Saturday and Sunday matinees.

“I’m nervous and excited to be making my Broadway debut in such a Pie-conic show,” Roker said in a statement. “My character’s name is Old Joe, so I’ve got half of it down already. And there’s pie every night!”

Waitress is based on the 2007 film and follows Jenna, a pregnant waitress who is trapped in an abusive marriage, as she finds relief in pie and a new romance.

Composer Sara Bareilles added, “ We are thrilled to have the beloved Al Roker joining the cast of Waitress for a limited engagement. He is a longtime favorite of ours and now we get to welcome him into a whole new world at the Brooks Atkinson where it hardly ever rains.”

Roker joins a cast led by Nicolette Robinson as Jenna, Drew Gehling as Dr. Pomatter, Adam Shapiro as Ogie, Katie Lowes as Dawn, NaTasha Yvette Williams as Becky, Ben Thompson as Earl and Benny Elledge as Cal.
