“Riverdale’s” Shannon Purser: “A Whole New Side” to Ethel Muggs in Season 3

IMDb

We can all breathe a sigh of relief. It seems like viewers have nothing to worry about when it comes to Shannon Purser’s Ethel Muggs. (cough, cough Justice for Barb!)

Riverdale creator Roberto Aguirre Sacasa hinted that Ethel Mugg wouldn’t make it out of season 2 alive, but she did and we’ll be seeing even more of her in season 3.

“There’s definitely more Ethel in Season 3, so fans can definitely look forward to that and it’s definitely interesting,” Purser shared to Bustle while promoting her upcoming Netflix film Sierra Burgess is a Loser. “I can’t give away too much, but she definitely undergoes some pretty big changes… there’s a new side of her [fans] haven’t seen before. I think it plays a very interesting part in the story this season.”

Ethel has proven herself to be more than just the mousy outcast in Riverdale. She’s cunning, smart and knows just what strings to pull to unravel Veronica’s relationship with her parents.

“Ethel especially, I think she could easily come off as sort of one-dimensional, but she’s not. She’s a human being and she’s having a really rough time with her family. It’s been really interesting to show the results of all of that inner turmoil and her kind of snapping,” said Purser. “Season 2 is where we see her — I don’t want to say snap, because she doesn’t go run around with an axe and start killing anybody … But she takes matters into her own hands.”

While we don’t have any specifics on this “new side” of Ethel,  it’s safe to say that we haven’t seen the last of Ethel Muggs.

Riverdale season 3 will premiere Wednesday, October 10th at 8pm on the CW
