‘Death Note’ Sequel Creeping to Netflix
Netflix will be making a sequel to the popular Netflix film, Death Note.
Death Note gained its original popularly as an Anime/Manga series written by Tsugumi Ohba and Takeshi Obata. It’s about a young man who obtains a notebook that gives him the power to kill anyone whose name he writes on its pages. The streaming service released an Americanized adaptation of the story directed by Adam Wingard last year. It was received with mixed reviews from fans, especially the ones who were familiar with the story and the original Japanese series. Alas, Netflix Chief Content Officer Ted Sarandos announced that the film was a success-a “sizable” one at that.
Netflix has commissioned Greg Russo to write the sequel. It’s unknown at this time whether Wingard will remain at the helm as director.
The Netflix film took place in Seattle, and the main character manipulates several deaths to save himself, and ultimately sets up the death of his girlfriend, Mia. The book and its keeper monster Ryuk, and L, the FBI agent investigating the case, remain very much alive and rearing for more.
Russo recently co-write some entries of the live-action Resident Evil movies, and is now penning the Mortal Kombat reboot script.
