Marvel's 'Black Panther' is Coming to Netflix in September

The news was announced on Tuesday via Netflix’s Strong Black Lead social media pages. Strong Black Lead tweeted, “This is THE OFFICIAL announcement that Black Panther is coming to @Netflix September 4. RT to save a life.”

Black Panther shattered box office records during its theatrical release receiving high praise from both fans and critics. From the time the film was in previews, critics had already created a buzz about possible Oscar nominations for the film. With the recent addition of the Academy’s Outstanding Achievement in Popular Film category, a nomination for Black Panther is almost guaranteed.

Black Panther will be one of the last Marvel films to grace Netflix’s platform. Earlier this month, it was revealed that Disney plans to release all Marvel films on their own streaming service beginning in 2019. In order to accomplish this, Disney is allowing a lucrative deal with Netflix to expire in the upcoming months.

Marvel’s Ant-Man and the Wasp looks like it will be the last Marvel film to be streamed on Netflix. Starting with Captain Marvel, all Walt Disney Studios films will be released to the Disney streaming service rather than to Netflix at the time of the film’s digital streaming release. For right now, at least, this would only impact Walt Disney Studios films. According to a Disney spokesperson, at this time, there are “no current plans” for Marvel television series to move from Netflix to the Disney service.

Black Panther begins streaming on Netflix starting September 4th. Wakanda Forever!
