‘It Follows’ Director to Write New Horror Film ‘They Hear It’

They Hear It (2018)Fans of the breakout horror film It Follows will be pleased to hear that the film’s writer/director David Robert Mitchell has been tapped by Legendary Entertainment to write a feature adaption of the horror short They Hear It. The short, which originally premiered earlier this year, was created by Julian Terry who will be stepping in to direct the big-screen take. It starred young actors Brey Chanadet and Aria Walters.

According to The Hollywood Reporter who received the exclusive, They Hear It will “revolve around a mysterious presence called “The Sound” that once heard by anyone has terrible consequences.” The premise sounds familiar to John Krasinski’s thriller A Quiet Place, which found a family having to live in silence for any time they made a noise they would suffer a painful death by the creatures that had taken over.

Mitchell’s 2014 film It Follows became a huge cult hit with rave reviews from critics. The film, which followed an unknown supernatural force that would find its victims after sexual encounters, currently holds a 97% on Rotten Tomatoes. He followed that film with Under the Silver Lake starring Andrew Garfield. It debuted at the Cannes Film Festival this year and will be hitting theaters this December.
