First Look at Disney’s Live-Action ‘Mulan’ Revealed

It’s happening! Production on Disney’s latest live-action film Mulan has officially begun!

On Monday, Disney kicked off production of the film by giving us our very first look at star Liu Yifei (also known as Crystal Liu) as the titular character Mulan. In the first photo released from the film, Yifei looks fierce and ready to go to battle with her blade in hand. Check out the first look at Yifei as Mulan below.

The live-action Mulan will be filmed in New Zealand and China and, in addition to Yifei will star Donnie Yen, Jason Scott Lee, Yoson An, Utkarsh Ambudkar, Ron Yuan, Tzi Ma, Rosalind Chao, Cheng Pei-Pei, Nelson Lee, Chum Ehelepola, with Gong Li, and Jet Li.

From director Niki Caro (Whale Rider, McFarland USA) with a screenplay by Rick Jaffa & Amanda Silver (Jurassic World, In the Heart of the Sea) and Elizabeth Martin & Lauren Hynek, the live-action film will tell the same story as the 1998 animated classic but in a whole new light. Mulan follows the titular character, a strong, young female who pretends to be male in order to fight alongside fellow warriors against Northern invaders.

The producers on the film are Jason T. Reed, Chris Bender, and Jake Weiner. Barrie M. Osborne, Bill Kong, and Tim Coddington are serving as executive producers.

Mulan hits theaters on March 27, 2020.
