‘Descendants’ To Premiere a Live-Action Short This September
Descendants 3 may not be hitting the small screen until next summer, but Disney Channel has a little something up their sleeve for all of the franchise’s die-hard fans. Last week, the network teased that a big announcement would be revealed during the Freaky Friday permiere and they sure delivered, announcing a new ten minute short titled Under the Sea: A Descendants Story, which is set to air this September.
Dove Cameron and China Anne McClain are set to reprise their roles as Mal and Uma as well as Anna Cathcart’s Dizzy,Thomas Doherty as Harry Hook and Dylan Playfair as Gil. The exclusive video picks up shortly after the Descendants 3 annoucement teaser, which found Mal in an enchanted forest staring at a glowing orb saying “Dad?” In this video, she wanders out of the woods to find Dizzy wearing Uma’s necklace and when she asks her about it she receives an evil laugh in return, signaling a whole lot of trouble ahead.
Disney has dubbed the short as “an epic underwater showdown,” and the events that take place during the ten minutes will lead into the franchise’s third and final film. Check out the trailer below!

The official plot of Descendants 3 has been kept under wraps, but we do know thanks to the teaser earlier this year that Mal’s dad will be playing a huge role. Considering they brought on Cheyenne Jackson to play the role of Hades, many think that he will play into that story. In addition to Jackson, D3 has added Jadah Marie as Dr. Facilier’s daughter, Jamal Sims as Dr. Facilier, and Christian Convery and Luke Roessler as Smee’s sons, Squeaky and Squirmy. They join a returning cast of Cameron, McClain, Sofia Carson, Boo Boo Stewart, Cameron Boyce, and Mitchell Hope.
Airing on September 28th, the special will be available to watch on the DisneyNOW app and Disney Channel VOD immediately following the Disney Channel premiere, which airs at 7:50 PM EST.
Having studied Media & Writing at James Madison University, I always knew that I wanted to do some type of creative writing, but being able to write about zombies, Starks, and superheroes on a daily basis for Fan Fest is my actual dream. While I probably shouldn’t be as proud as I am to be so similar to Nick Miller, I do hope to one day write my own “Pepperwood Chronicles’.
