Vin Diesel Kicks Off Filming for ‘Bloodshot’ by Thanking Fans in an Instagram Post

Production for the upcoming Vin Diesel film Bloodshot is officially underway and Diesel himself took to Instagram to commemorate the moment.

In a brief video posted to his personal account, Diesel recorded a message to his fans from the set of the production’s very first day of filming in Africa. Film director Dave Wilson makes an appearance in the video as well.

In the brief clip, Diesel tells fans that he woke up before the crack of dawn in order to leave his house at 5:45am to make it to set before expressing his gratitude to his fans for sticking with him and believing in him. He seemed upbeat and genuinely excited to get started on the film despite the ungodly hour. He says:

[row]“It’s Africa, it’s the morning. Left the house at 5:45, ready to grind. So excited that I’m able to make movies in my life, to do what I love and every time try to master it a little more. It’s obviously still dark outside in Africa. Got a director here, equally excited, Dave Wilson ready to kill Bloodshot. Day number one. So blessed, so grateful, and as you know we always reach higher to impress you, to make you enjoy these movies even more. Thank you for believing in me, thank you for believing in us.”[/row]

Bloodshot is a former soldier who gains superpowers after being injected with cutting-edge experimental nanites by the mysterious Project Rising Spirit. He then begins rounding up superpowered outcasts known as “the harbingers.”

Last year, Sony Pictures announced their plans to move forward with a five-film shared universe based on Bloodshot and another Valiant comic Harbinger.  This could be the first film in that series.

In addition to Diesel, the film also stars Eiza Gonzalez, Sam Heughan, Talulah Riley, Alex Hernandez, Toby Kebbell and New Girl star Lamorne Morris. Oscar-nominated screenwriter Eric Heisserer (Arrival) has been tapped to write the screenplay which will be directed by Dave Wilson of Blur Studios.  The film reunites Diesel with Fast and the Furious‘s Neal Moritz who is set to produce the film along with Dinesh Shamdasani from Valiant.

Currently, Bloodshot is slated for release on February 21, 2020.
