‘The Walking Dead’: Negan to join Tekken 7

Image: Tekken Trailer

I have been a fan of both video games, comics and nerdy television shows for as long as I can remember. When I see some of my favorite shows doing crossover episodes, the inner nerd in me is always raving with excitement. Last night, while watching a random video game tutorial, I came across a youtube commercial for Tekken 7; showcasing its Season 2 pass.

What came at the end of that commercial was something that completely caught me off guard. That distinctive, bone-chilling, goose-bump causing whistle to that all too familiar tune. Negan, from the hit AMC series The Walking Dead was going to be in one of my all time favorite video games. This news was all too exciting for both Walking Dead and gamer fans alike!

Tekken director Katsuhiro Harada and designer Michael Murray announced that they would be bringing a number of new characters to the game. The first two being Anna Williams and Lei Wulong and the third was Negan (yes Negan!).

Check out the official commercial announcing one of our favorite villains’ as an official playable character:

The best part about this whole thing – Negan was actually a suggestion made by a fan of the gaming series when Katsuhiro Harada asked for guest character suggestions last April.  The fan suggested Negan, and Harada responded “with Lucille?”.

The news has spread all across social media, spawning countless numbers of memes and reaction videos. This version of Negan will be Jefferey Dean Morgan’s show interpretation as opposed to the comic book version. Fingers crossed that Morgan will be doing the voicework for this cameo, being as the commercial portrays that it is in his likeness. We are still awaiting an official confirmation date on the release of the DLC, so we will for sure keep you posted.

Negan will continue to be a part of The Walking Dead television series as they enter their ninth season, although instead of being the glorious leader of the Saviors – it will be as Rick Grimes prisoner.

The Walking Dead will return in October.
