‘Game of Thrones’ Riverrun Castle Up for Sale in Northern Ireland

If you have ever wanted to live in one of the castles featured on HBO’s hit series Game of Thrones, now is your chance to do so!

A portion of the massive Gosford Castle in Northern Ireland has just come up for sale. The location was used in Game of Thrones to represent the House Tully stronghold, Riverrun. Fans of the series will remember that Riverrun was the childhood home of none other than Catelyn Stark played by Michelle Fairley.

This part of the castle that is for sale is being called “partially developed” in the real estate advertisement with the potential to be converted into six luxury apartments, each boasting approximately 3500 square feet of space. Each apartment has at least three bedrooms (some have five). The grand total of rooms for all six apartments is 15+ bedrooms and 10 bathrooms! Some units even have rooftop gardens to boot!

In addition to its Game of Thrones connection, the castle also has a rustic history dating all the way back to the mid-18000s. According to the ad, the castle’s history is as follows:

[row]“Built in the mid-1800s by the 2nd Earl of Gosford, Archibald Acheson, Gosford Castle is a grade A listed building.  It was designed in the Norman Revival style by London architect Thomas Hopper and was occupied by the Earls of Gosford until 1921. During the Second World War, the Castle was commandeered and used to accommodate troops and prisoner of war camp was set up in the estate.

Following the war, the Achesons sold the Castle to the Ministry of Agriculture who established the 590-acre demesne as Gosford Forest Park which was later designated Northern Ireland’s first conservation forest in 1986. The castle fell back into military use during The Troubles before being run as a hotel from 1983.”[/row]

The Gosford Castle (aka. Riverrun) can be yours for an asking price of £500,000 which equals $656,452 in U.S. dollars. Check out the Gosford Castle’s “For Sale” ad on Maisonni.com.
