Justin Theroux to Voice Star in ‘Lady and the Tramp’ Live-Action

Some of your favorite Disney animated classics may be locked in the Disney vault, but hey, you’ve got plenty of live-action adaptions coming your way. Whether or not that excites you, is up to you. Fresh off a trailer for the live-action Dumbo and the news that Jason Scott Lee would play a villain in MulanCollider has confirmed that The Leftover’s star Justin Theroux will be lending his voice to the live-action Lady and the Tramp.

The 1955 animated film followed a Lady, a sheltered Cocker Spaniel, who meets a streetwise downtown mutt named Tramp. Along with a crew of other hilarious sidekicks, the two wildly different dogs begin to fall in love. I mean, we all know the iconic scene.

Theroux will be voicing the Tramp with Catastrophe’s Ashley Jensen lending her voice to one of Lady’s best friends, a Scottish Terrier named Jackie. In the original film, this character was a male dog named Jock and was voiced by Larry Roberts. The film will be directed by The Lego Ninjago Movie’s Charlie Bean and written by Andrew Bujalski. It will be produced by Brighman Taylor.

What makes Lady and the Tramp different than other live-action adaptions for Disney is that it will only premiere on Disney’s upcoming streaming service and will not be released in theaters. The streaming service, which is expected to be worth over $25 billion, will house a comprehensive library of Disney classics, as well as new original series and movies made specifically for the platform, including Lady and the Tramp.

You can catch Theroux in theaters now starring in the Mila Kunis and Kate McKinnon comedy The Spy Who Dumped Me and he will also be appearing in the upcoming Transformers prequel, Bumblebee. He recently wrapped a three-season stint on HBO’s The Leftovers, which wrapped last year.
