Fans have been anxiously awaiting news regarding when the upcoming eighth and final season of Game of Thrones might premiere. On Wednesday, at the first stop on the Television Critics Association (TCA) press tour, HBO president Casey Bloys gave us a little more information on when to expect that premiere date.

Up until now, it’s been known that the last season of Game of Thrones was set to air, “sometime in 2019,” giving fans 52 possible Sundays on which the show could premiere. According to Bloys, the premiere date is narrowed down to the first half of 2019.

When asked about the final season of Game of Thrones, Bloys replied, “I’m not going to say what to expect [from the final season] though it’s pretty great.” He went on to say that the premiere date will be, “sometime in 2019…first half.”

While that isn’t a precise premiere date, at the very least, it’s narrowed down the scope of when the season will premiere significantly. Game of Thrones is currently in the process of wrapping up its production on the upcoming eighth and final season. The final season of Game of Thrones is by far one of the most highly-anticipated television series events ever as fans wait to learn the epic conclusion of the battle for the Iron Throne.

In addition to the eighth and final season, HBO previously announced that one of the potential Game of Thrones spinoff series received a pilot order from the network giving fans comfort that, though the original series might be coming to an end, there is still more story to be told once the final chapter of the HBO series airs. It was previously thought that the pilot for the Game of Thrones spinoff prequel series would begin filming this fall, however, Bloys confirmed it’s now expected to begin filming next year.
