The story follows a child psychologist named Anna Fox who suffers from severe agoraphobia (extreme or irrational fear of crowded spaces/enclosed public places) and hasn’t left her house for quite some time. She spends her days observing her neighbors until one night she witnesses a terrible crime occur shortly after a new family moves in across the way.  The only problem is Anna is constantly mixing her medication with alcohol and no one from the police to her friends and family believe her, leading her to soon begin to doubt herself. As someone who read this book for my book club, I can safely say that its thrilling plot will have you guessing the whole time!

Academy Award nominee Amy Adams will play the lead role of Anna Fox and Oldman, who won the Academy Award this past year for his turn in Darkest Hour, will play the patriarch of the family who moves in across the street. The movie will team Oldman back up with his Darkest Hour director Joe Wright, who will direct a script written by Tracy Letts. It will be produced by Scott Rudin and Eli Bush.

Amy Adams is currently starring in another book adaption on HBO’s Sharp Objects and has appeared in films such as American Hustle, Arrival, Nocturnal Animals, Big Eyes, and Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. She has been nominated for 5 Academy Awards. In addition to Darkest Hour, Oldman is best known for his roles in films such as Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy, The Dark Knight and The Harry Potter franchise. He will soon star in The Laundromat alongside Meryl Streep.
