‘The Good Doctor’ Season 2 Gets a Premiere Date

Mark your calendars, The Good Doctor fans! We now know when our favorite show will be kicking off its second season on ABC.

Announced on Tuesday via the show’s official social media pages, the surgical team of St. Bonaventure Hospital officially heads back to work (on our television screens) on Monday, September 24th, exactly two months from today!

Fans have been anxiously awaiting the show’s return in order to find a resolution to the first season’s cliffhanger ending. At the end of The Good Doctor‘s first season, it was revealed in a shocking twist that Dr. Aaron Glassman (played by Richard Schiff) is suffering from a rare form of cancer, and ultimately is dying. The season’s finale episode centered around Dr. Shaun Murphy (played by Freddie Highmore) refusing to accept the diagnosis and researching how he could save his friend and mentor, by any means possible. Due to Dr. Glassman’s health weighing heavily on Shaun’s mind, becomes distracted during a surgery which leads to a mistake. If Dr. Andrews (Hill Harper) gets wind of this error, Shaun risks losing his place in St. Bonaventure. The final scene of the season 1 finale shows Shaun and Dr. Glassman walking into Dr. Andrews’ office together to face their fate.

Series star Freddie Highmore has written the first episode of the season and we definitely can’t wait to see where season two picks up. Check out the post from The Good Doctor‘s Facebook page below.

So far, we know that season 2 of the series will focus on Dr. Shaun Murphy’s challenges at the hospital, as well as on his relationship with his love interest (and returning fan favorite character) Lea (played by Paige Spara). Freddie Highmore has confirmed, however, that Shaun’s relationship with Dr. Aaron Glassman is really the heart of the season two storyline.

Additionally, House star Lisa Edelstein will be joining the cast in a recurring role as Dr. Blaize, a recently suspended expert oncologist who returns to St. Bonaventure at Dr. Glassman’s request in order to help with his cancer treatments. While Dr. Blaize and Dr. Glassman may not get along or be on the best of terms, Dr. Glassman knows she is the best person to help him in the fight for his life.

In addition to Highmore, Schiff, Harper, and Spara, The Good Doctor also stars Antonia Thomas, Nicholas Gonzalez, Beau Garrett, Will Yun Lee, and Christina Chang. The series was created by David Shore who also serves executive producer along with Kim and Lee.

The Good Doctor returns to ABC on Monday, September 24th!
