Michael Rooker Targets Twitter After Guardian’s Gunn Is Fired.

This past weekend, Guardians of the Galaxy (GoTG) star Michael Rooker deactivated his verified Twitter account, @RookerOnline, after placing a final post on July 22nd. News of Mr. Rooker’s decision came on the heels of an announcement that Disney fired Guardian’s director James Gunn after “a series of offensive tweets were uncovered from his past social media history“.

“This account will be inactive after today. We’re very tired & upset over the ongoing BULLS–T… neither I nor my rep will use Twitter again. Twitter sucks and I want nothing to do with it.  Thank you to all who gave kind words & support. See you on Instagram.” – Source: Entertainment Weekly

While the reason for deactivation of @RookerOnline was not specifically mentioned, fans are left to assume that Gunn’s firing was indeed the cause. Michael Rooker, who plays the colorful Yondu Udonta in Guardians of the Galaxy films Vol. 1 and Vol. 2, not only has a working relationship with James Gunn but also a friendship. The two have been connected since Gunn’s directorial debut with Slither in 2006 which expanded to them reuniting for the GOTG films and The Belko Experiment. Given their history, it is easy to understand the loyalty between them.

As with most filming franchises, the actors and actresses often become family. Guardians of the Galaxy stars Zoe Saldana (Gamora) and Chris Pratt (Peter Quill) took to Twitter and voiced their thoughts after the shocking news.

Of course, it should come as no surprise that James’ brother and GoTG cast member Sean Gunn (Kraglin) would step in to show his support.

Social media continues to be a source of conflict, I implore all users to take care in what they choose to post. The content, whether controversial or cordial, is there for the world to see… permanently. It is understandable yet sad to see that another fan favorite has been driven to disengage. Am I surprised? No. Michael Rooker’s snarky Twitter wit will be missed.
