Matthew Davis and Regina King Would Love to Reprise Their Roles for ‘Legally Blonde 3’

Just under two months ago, Elle Woods herself Reese Witherspoon confirmed that Legally Blonde 3 was in the works.

There had been speculation and discussions for quite some time over creating another sequel film in the franchise, but nothing had come to fruition. Last month, there were reports that Witherspoon was in serious discussions regarding another film, once again, without official confirmation. Just days after the news story broke speculating the third film, Witherspoon posted a confirmation to her social media pages.

The confirmation came in true Elle Woods style and contained a video featuring Witherspoon in the iconic pink bikini that Woods wore in her Harvard application video. Witherspoon was recorded wearing the bikini and floating on a raft cross a picturesque pool with a cocktail in her hand. The caption on the post was simple but definite. It simply read, “It’s true… #LegallyBlonde3.”

Since then, no additional details regarding the plot or casting has been released, however, there are two Legally Blonde stars that would definitely be in should the third film actually happen.

Entertainment Weekly recently caught up with both Matthew Davis (who played Woods’ former boyfriend Warner in the first Legally Blonde film) and Regina King (who played congressional staffer Grace Rossiter in Legally Blonde 2). While neither actor had any details on the film or confirmed whether or not they had been approached about reprising their roles, they both said they would join the production in a heartbeat.

Davis said, “I would love to see where the writers think Warner is at this point,” and he even had some storyline ideas for his character. He continued, “I would love to see something where perhaps Warner is married to a politician, to a woman who’s running for office, and he’s sort of like a kept man. And her opponent is another candidate, and the person running the campaign is Elle Woods. So it’s Elle Woods driving this campaign against the wife of Warner.”

We love the sound of that idea! Davis also had a really great point that, without Warner, there would be no Legally Blonde at all. Without the Warner storyline, Elle Woods never would have had the motivation to apply to Harvard Law in the first place. Of course, he has to come back for the third film, especially since he started the whole franchise!

King, on the other hand, simply expressed her excitement for the film saying, “I freakin’ love Reese and if she asked me to come back, even if it was just for a scene, I would.”

Personally, we would love to see the original cast from the first two films come back for the third, but only time will tell. Hopefully, we will start to get more announcement and details on Legally Blonde 3 in the coming months.
