ABC Sets a Premiere Date for the ‘Roseanne’ Spinoff ‘The Conners’

Just over a month after news broke that the Roseanne spinoff series The Conners had been greenlit straight to a series order, the show now has an official premiere date at ABC. On Tuesday, ABC announced that the series will be hitting our televisions starting Tuesday, October 16th in the 8-8:30 PM timeslot.

The Conners series was fast-tracked by ABC earlier this year, about a month after the unexpected cancellation of the highly successful revival of Roseanne. ABC President Channing Dungey announced the series cancellation after fall out from Roseanne Barr’s inappropriate remarks on Twitter. Barr will have no financial or creative involvement in the new series The Conners.

ABC describes the upcoming new comedy series as follows:

[row]”After a sudden turn of events, the Conners are forced to face the daily struggles of life in Lanford in a way they never have before. This iconic family – Dan, Jackie, Darlene, Becky, and D.J. – grapples with parenthood, dating, an unexpected pregnancy, financial pressures, aging and in-laws in working-class America. Through it all, the fights, the coupon cutting, the hand-me-downs, the breakdowns – with love, humor, and perseverance, the family prevails.” [/row]

The series will star John Goodman (Dan), Laurie Metcalf (Jackie), Sara Gilbert (Darlene), Lecy Goranson (Becky), and Michael Fishman (D.J.) all reprising their beloved character roles from the original Roseanne series.

At the time that the series was announced, the cast joined together to issue a statement expressing their optimism in moving forward with this new chapter for the Conner family. They said:

[row]“We have received a tremendous amount of support from fans of our show, and it’s clear that these characters not only have a place in our hearts but in the hearts and homes of our audience. We all came back last season because we wanted to tell stories about the challenges facing a working-class family today. We are so happy to have the opportunity to return with the cast and crew to continue to share those stories through love and laughter.”[/row]

Tom Werner will executive produce, along with Gilbert, Bruce Helford, Dave Caplan, Bruce Rasmussen and Tony Hernandez. Helford, Caplan, and Rasmussen are also writers.

The Conners is set to premiere on Tuesday, October 16th at 8 pm.
