SDCC 2018: USA’s ‘The Purge’ Series Gets New Trailer

USA/YouTube

Whether or not you wanted it, we are getting more Purge! This past weekend at San Deigo Comic-Con, The Purge series, which is hitting USA network this Fall with 10 episodes, released a full trailer during its Saturday evening panel.

“What is America? America is, we’ve been told the Land of the Free, so, tell me then, what is more American than the Purge?” A newscaster can be heard saying over the radio at the start of the trailer.

From film franchise creator James DeMonaco and Blumhouse Television, The Purge series will add a new chapter to the already well-established universe and finds “several seemingly unrelated characters living in a small city, and as the clock winds down, each character is forced to reckon with their past as they discover how far they will go to survive the night.”

The trailer doesn’t offer much for the plot, but definitely sets up some of the different locations and characters, including a group of corporate employees who are working on Purge night, a guy whose sister seems to be in some sort of Purge cult, and a couple attending a Gatsby-inspired party. While the series is being helmed as a character drama, the trailer previews all of the violence and gore that Purge fans have come to expect in the franchise.

The series stars Gabriel Chavarria, Jessica Garza, Hannah Emily Anderson, and Reed Diamond. It will be written and executive produced by DeMonaco and led by Jason Blum with Thomas Kelly serving as showrunner.

The original Purge movie hit theaters in 2013 and starred Ethan Hawke and Game of Thrones’ Lena Headey. It quickly became a cult hit and before we knew it there were three more installments including The Purge: Anarchy, The Purge: Election Year and 2018’s The First Purge.

The Purge is set to premiere on Tuesday, September 4 at 10/9c on USA Network,
