‘Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants’ Is Getting a Musical!

It’s not the reunion movie that we are desperately craving, but The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants is being adapted for the stage! The Hollywood Reporter says that multi-Tony Award-winning producer Scott Delman of Blue Spruce Productions has received the live theatrical rights for the film from Alcon Entertainment and Alloy Entertainment, the production companies of the original film.

The 2005 movie, which was based on the young adult novel by Ann Brashare, starred Blake Lively, Alexis Bledel, America Ferrera, and Amber Tamblyn. The movie found a perfect a jeans following best friends Bridget, Carmen, Lena, and Tibby around the world on their own adventures of love, heartbreak and tragedy, keeping them connected as they discovered who they were individually and as friends. The movie managed to earn $42 million and the box office and received a sequel in 2008.

The moving premise and light-hearted nature of the Sisterhood story would actually make for a very successful musical, following in the footsteps of other similar films such as Legally Blonde and Waitress. From the vastly different and likable four main characters to the various settings, I can’t see why it wouldn’t be entertaining to watch this story come to life on stage. Plus, there will be musical numbers!? Sign me up for a front and center seat opening night!

The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants fanbase has always been an extremely passionate fandom even 13 years later, mainly thanks to the cast still being extremely close in real life. They are constantly reuniting:

“There’s a strong chance there might be a third. The four of us are still best friends. To be able to create something together again has always been a dream of ours,” Lively told People in 2016.
