Freeform Developing ‘How the Other Half Hamptons’ Series
Hollywood power-couple Kelly Ripa (LIVE with Kelly and Ryan) and Mark Consuelos (Riverdale) are teaming up behind the camera for a new series that Freeform has just put into development. Titled How the Other Half Hamptons, the hour-long drama series, which is based on Jasmin Rosemberg’s book, would follow a group of Manhattan twenty-somethings who participate in the annual ritual of sharing a house in the Hamptons for the summer.
According to Deadline, How the Other Half Hamptons follows:
[row]Best friends Rachel (the good girl), Jamie (the wild one), and Allison (the suddenly single serial monogamist) are about to find out How The Other Half Hamptons. For 16 weekends, they’ll inhabit a 10-bedroom house with 40 strangers and juggle endless parties with regrettable hookups while dodging unexpected twists of fate. They’ll encounter shared bathrooms (three or more women to a mirror,) discover what passes for entertainment (beer pong,) and face sticky dilemmas (having your ex show up at the same house.) If nothing else, they’ll learn at least one valuable lesson — how to do it better next year.[/row]
Ripa and Consuelos will be partnering up their production company Milojo Productions with Aaron Kaplan’s Kaptial Entertainment, which has worked with Freeform (previously ABC Family) in the past on projects such as Chasing Life and Kevin From Work. Kaptial Entertainment also has their hand on many current and upcoming series including Netflix’s Santa Clarita Diet, HBO’s Divorce, Showtime’s The Chi, as well as new shows such as ABC’s A Million Little Things and CBS All Access’ Tell me a Story.
The series seems like it would be a great fit for Freeform whose catalog includes other young-adult shows like Cloak & Dagger, The Fosters, Grown-ish, The Bold Type, and Shadowhunters. Plus it seems like the perfect project for Ripa and Consuelos who have been Hamptons regulars and currently own a home there. They will both executive produce with Kapital’s Aaron Kaplan and Dana Honor.
