‘The Walking Dead’s Red Machete’ Nominated for an Emmy Award

AMC’s The Walking Dead may have been snubbed once again this year by the Television Academy, but at least its online digital companion series is earning some recognition. During Thursday’s 70th annual Emmy Award nomination announcements, it was revealed that The Walking Dead‘s Red Machete series earned an Emmy nomination. The Red Machete series was nominated for Outstanding Short Form Comedy or Drama Series.

The Red Machete is a mini-series which aired over the course of several short episodes each running around two to two and a half minutes in time. The series of episodes follows the journey of Rick Grimes’ coveted weapon of choice in season five, the red handled machete. Fans will remember that Rick Grimes used that weapon to kill Gareth, leader of Terminus, during the series’ fifth season.

In the mini-series, viewers learn the origins of the red handled weapon starting from the very beginning when the machete was still packaged up in a box at a hardware store to its first owner to the weapon getting picked up by some familiar faces along the way. The series as a whole was a fun departure from the regular series’ storyline.

The Red Machete is up against some series competition within its category. The series was nominated along with aka Wyatt CenacAn Emmy For MeganGrey’s Anatomy: B Team, and James Corden’s Next James Corden.

Now, you can watch The Walking Dead’s Red Machete in its entirety on AMC.com. The entire series is only about 15-minutes long and is linked below in a tweet from AMC’s The Walking Dead‘s official Twitter account.
