‘Shadowhunters’ Producer Gives an Update on the Future of the Series

CR: ABC/Freeform

It’s one of the worst feelings ever in TV fandom and we’ve all experienced it. I’m talking, of course, about the horror and heartbreak of your favorite showing being canceled right smack in the middle of a captivating series run. When this happens, however, it doesn’t always mean the series is gone forever. Fandoms have started to fight back and to actively help their favorite shows seek out a new home in order to continue telling their story.

When fans of the Freeform series Shadowhunters learned that their favorite show was being canceled after its third season, almost immediately an online campaign to #SaveShadowhunters began forming. Now, according to Deadline, the hashtag has been used in over 10 million tweets, two rented billboard ads in New York’s Time Square, and even has been trailed behind a plane which flew over Netflix headquarters in order to get the word out about saving the show.

Their efforts, at least for the time being, are certainly helping to keep discussions alive. Series producer Martin Moszkowicz spoke with Deadline recently where he confirmed that, while they haven’t found a new home yet, he still remains hopeful. Moszkowicz revealed they are still actively partaking in discussions as to “how we can continue to bring Cassandra Clare’s vision to television.”

Those discussions, at the very least, helped to solidify two final episodes in order to wrap up the story by extending the end of Shadowhunters third season. With the two added episodes, the season is being extended from 10 episodes to 12 episode and is being dubbed Shadowhunters: The Final Hunt. The final two episodes of the season are expected to air sometime in Spring of 2019.

Moszkowicz also confirmed that Producer Constantin Film is also in discussions with various networks and platforms relating to Clare’s The Infernal Devices. This series would not be considered a continuation of Shadowhunters necessarily but would include several crossover characters from the series.

So, keep fighting Shadowhunters fandom! Hopefully, the series can find a new home and a new life beyond the final two episodes of season 3.

Shadowhunters stars Katherine McNamara, Dominic Sherwood, Alberto Rosende, Emeraude Toubia, Matthew Daddario, Isaiah Mustafa, Alisha Wainwright, and Harry Shum Jr.
