‘Gundam’ Live-Action Movie in the Works at Legendary

Turning cartoons into live-action productions is a hot trend lately and the popular anime series Gundam is the latest to follow the trend. The anime series will be getting a live-action movie make-over.

The plans for the live-action film were announced on Thursday during the 2018 Anime Expo panel in Los Angeles. You can watch the panel announcement below:

The upcoming film will be co-produced by Legendary Entertainment and Sunrise and will be based on the Gundam series which was first created back in 1979. According to a press release from Sunrise, “the original Gundam series is set in the Universal Century, an era in which humanity’s growing population has led people to emigrate to space colonies. Eventually, the people living in the colonies seek their autonomy and launch a war of independence against the people living on Earth. Through the tragedies and discord arising from this human conflict, not only the maturation of the main character but also the intentions of enemies and the surrounding people are sensitively depicted. The battles in the story, in which the characters pilot robots known as mobile suits, are wildly popular.”

The series has a massive crowd-following and has maintained its popularity over the years. The series has spawned a multi-platform universe which includes animated films, televised anime, manga, video games, toys and more.

For Legendary, Cale Boyter will be overseeing the project along with the creative team. Of course, any plot details are being kept secret for the time being, but hopefully, more details will be released in the upcoming months.
