Idris Elba Joins ‘Hobbs and Shaw’ as the Big Bad
We were already excited about Fast and the Furious’ latest spin-off Hobbs and Shaw, but now we’ve learned that Idris Elba will be playing the film’s villain and our excitement level is officially off the charts! Starring Dwayne Johnson and Jason Statham reprising their F&F roles, Hobbs and Shaw will find Johnson’s US Diplomatic Security Agent Luke Hobbs forming an unlikely partnership with notorious bad guy Deckard Shaw (Statham). The film just recently cast The Crown’s Vanessa Kirby for a leading role as well.
Johnson had promised in a recent Instagram that they would be making some amazing casting announcement in the coming months and we have yet to be disappointed! He confirmed Elba’s role on Twitter.
David Leitch (Deadpool 2) will be directing a script from one of the franchise’s regular writer’s Chris Morgan. Neal H. Moritz is producing alongside Johnson,’s Seven Bucks Productions which includes Dany Garcia and Hiram Garcia. Statham will also be producing with his production company Eponymous Production and partner Chris Morgan.
Elba recently appeared in Marvel’s Thor: Ragnarok and Avengers: Infinity War as well as The Mountain Between Us and Molly’s Game. He will be stepping back into his role as John Luther on BBC’s Luther.
Hobbs and Shaw hits theaters on July 26, 2019.

Having studied Media & Writing at James Madison University, I always knew that I wanted to do some type of creative writing, but being able to write about zombies, Starks, and superheroes on a daily basis for Fan Fest is my actual dream. While I probably shouldn’t be as proud as I am to be so similar to Nick Miller, I do hope to one day write my own “Pepperwood Chronicles’.
