The Wasp Was Originally Going to Be Introduced in ‘Civil War’

Evangeline Lilly’s superhero persona The Wasp may be flying around, kicking ass, and taking names in the latest MCU film Ant-Man and The Wasp, but originally she was supposed to be suited up and making her debut much earlier. While speaking with IGNAnt-Man and The Wasp director Peyton Reed revealed that the original plan was to unveil The Wasp in 2016’s Captain America: Civil War.

[row]“There was a point, really early on, where she was going to be introduced in Civil War, but there just simply wasn’t screen time to do justice to that character, so we’ve done it here.”[/row]

Lilly’s portrayal of the character in the Ant-Man follow-up has been getting rave reviews and giving her the spotlight for Ant-Man and The Wasp has been a long time coming for the Marvel team.

[row]”This whole movie was about putting her at the forefront and was about making good on the promise of the end of the last film where she says, ‘About damn time.” That whole movie was about the fact that clearly she was qualified to put on a suit and do what was right but she kept being prevented by her father, for reasons that were revealed in that film and reasons that have to do with her mother and now, of course, she becomes the key hero to attempt to rescue her mom and seeing that father-daughter relationship repaired in this movie was something that was great fun for us and to see here step in the forefront,” Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige explained to ComicBook.com. [/row]

The Wasp is certainly a trailblazing character for the next phase of the MCU. As the first female superhero to co-headline a solo film, Lilly joins the current ranks of Scarlett Johannson’s Black Widow and Elizabeth Olsen’s Scarlet Witch. In the pipeline is Brie Larson’s Captain Marvel, who will be the first female lead for Marvel and a whole slew of new types of heroes that Feige has promised are coming.

Are you happy that Marvel waited to unveil The Wasp for Ant-Man and The Wasp or do you think she would have been a welcomed addition to that epic airport scene in Civil War? Let us know!
