‘GLOW’ Season 2 is the Netflix “Must-See” Show of the Summer!

'GLOW' Season 2 is the Netflix "Must-See" Show of the Summer!

GLOW season 2 dropped on Netflix this past weekend and we’re marking this one down as a “must-see” for this summer!

The sophomore season of the series is bigger, bolder and even more badass than the first! Whereas season 1 was a nostalgic trip down memory lane back to the glorious and humble beginnings of the original 1980s television series, season 2 adds a level of maturity and depth to the already established storylines and characters.

When things first start off in season 2, the Gorgeous Ladies of Wrestling are reuniting after a brief hiatus from the ring, but we soon find out that time does not heal all wounds. The two main ladies Ruth/Zoya the Destroyer (played by Alison Brie) and Debbie/Liberty Bell (played by Betty Gilpin) are still dealing with their fractured friendship while trying to remain professional with each other in the most unprofessional work environment ever. As the season progresses, these two characters continue to flutter back and forth between friends, coworkers and sworn mortal enemies until one big blowout takes things to a new level.

Ruth and Debbie’s relationship is hardly the only focus of the season. We see Sam Sylvia (played by Marc Marron) trying to figure out how to become a father to his newly-discovered daughter Justine (played by Britt Baron). Cherry Bang (played by Sydelle Noel) is struggling with her attempt to step away from the stuntwoman and step into being a lead actress and Tamme Dawson/Welfare Queen (played by Kia Stevens) is just one of many characters struggling with stereotyping. While the characters are all struggling with their own personal battles, they are challenged by Sylvia to kick things up a notch (or twelve notches) in the ring as their wrestling show is facing cancellation. The network has moved them to the timeslot where TV shows go to die and things are looking mighty grim for the girls.

Season 2 explores some heavier topics which are a nice contrast to season 1’s light-hearted airiness. One scene, in particular, finds Ruth (Brie) in a sort of “casting couch” situation. It’s most definitely a #MeToo moment which is so relevant nowadays and so brilliantly executed within the bigger pictures of the series.

Overall, GLOW season 2 will become your binge addiction. In addition to the captivating storylines, there’s tons of badass wrestling moves and just an unexplained magical quality to the show that will draw you in and leave you wanting more!

Make sure you set some time aside this weekend to start a binge-watching experience like none other! Check out GLOW now streaming on Netflix!

In addition to Brie, Gilpin, and Maron, GLOW also stars Kate Nash, Gayle Rankin, Sydelle Noel, Britney Young, Britt Baron, Kia Stevens, Jackie Tohn, Ellen Wong, Sunita Mani, Chris Lowell, Marianna Palka, Kimmy Gatewood, Rebekka Johnson, Shakira Barrera, Bashir Salahuddin and Rich Sommer. The series is created by Liz Flahive and Carly Mensch who also serve as showrunners. Executive producers include Flahive, Mensch, Tara Hermann and Jenji Kohan
