‘Fear the Walking Dead’s Garret Dillahunt to Star in Indie Drama ‘Supreme Ruler’

Fear the Walking Dead‘s Garret Dillahunt is taking a step outside of the zombie apocalypse to star opposite Juliette Lewis in a new indie drama called Supreme Leader.

The film is from Screen Media and, according to The Hollywood Reporter, “centers on small-town go-getter Steve Loomis (Dillahunt), whose dream of becoming “supreme ruler” of his local Buffalo Lodge is unexpectedly challenged by a hard-drinking, womanizing lodge member, Hank. The two men are forced to travel to the Buffalo National Convention in Chicago in order to win the support of the organization’s national leaders, where Steve befriends an established supreme ruler, Nancy (Lewis).”

The film also stars The Alienist’s Brian Geraghty and Chicago P.D.‘s Marina Squerciati. THR says that acting vet Tom Berenger (Major League, Platoon, Inception) is in talks regarding the role of Hank.

Directed by Duane Edwards, the film will be written by Frederick Mensch. Seth Needle and Screen Media will executive produce while Emanuele Moretti and D.J. Dodd will produce along with Edwards. Paolo Monaci and Patrizia Fersurella have signed on as co-producers.

Dillahunt’s Fear the Walking Dead character made his debut in the show’s current season four. His character, John Dorie (like the fish, but with an “ie”) became an instant fan favorite no the series. In fact, the character of John Dorie is so loved, fans completely freaked out this season when he was shockingly shot and appeared to be a total goner. Spoiler alert, if you’re not caught up yet with Fear‘s fourth season, John Dorie did survive (for now), but who knows what the back half of the season and the dangers of the zombie apocalypse have in store for the character in the future.
