Thirty Seconds to Mars frontman Jared Leto is about to take on a yet another comic book-themed role. Leto, who notably starred in DC’s Suicide Squad as the Joker, has now officially signed on to play the role of Morbius the Living Vampire in the upcoming Sony film Morbius.

Morbius the Living Vampire is an antihero with quite an interesting backstory. The Living Vampire is also known as Dr. Michael Morbius, a scientist who attempted to cure himself of a rare blood disease. His attempt at self-treatment, unfortunately, did not cure him but infected him with a form of vampirism. Along with his new infection, Morbius also developed superhuman strength, fangs and an unquenched thirst for blood. In the comics, he starts out as an enemy to Spider-Man but eventually begins to shift towards becoming a more heroic as he learns to control his newly found vampiristic personality.

Leto took to Twitter on Wednesday with a teaser relating to his new role. He posted a picture of Morbius the Living Vampire which sent his followers into full-on freak out mode. Leto didn’t caption the post with any words. He simply included a black heart emoji:

The upcoming film will be directed by Daniel Espinosa (Life, Child 44). Burk Sharpless and Matt Sazama, best known for their work as showrunners for Netflix’s Lost in Space will be penning the script while Avi Arad, Matt Tolmach and Lucas Foster produce. Aside from the Oscar-winning Leto, no other casting information has been released.

The film Morbius is Sony’s latest dive into the Spider-Man comics world. Earlier this year, Sony released the first trailer and look at the upcoming Venom starring Tom Hardy. Currently, Sony and Disney share the rights to the Spider-Man: Homecoming movies.

Leto is already to set to reprise his Suicide Squad role as the Joker in an upcoming standalone set within the DC Extended Universe. He also most recently starred in Netflix’s The Outsider and is currently on tour with his band Thirty Seconds to Mars.
