Jeremy Irons Joins HBO’s ‘Watchmen’ Series
Damon Lindelof’s Watchmen series has officially brought Academy Award Winner Jeremy Irons on board the HBO adaption. Irons joins an already impressive cast including Regina King, Don Johnson, Louis Gossett Jr., Tim Blake Nelson, Adelaide Clemens and Andrew Howard.
The series will be an original story based on the popular 12 issue comic series byAlan Moore, with the pilot being written by Lindelof. While set in a premise where “superheroes” are treated as outlaws, Lindelof’s plan is to create a remix of the comics that would take place in a more modern setting that grants him the ability to explore current social and political topics using new and familiar characters. All that we know about Iron’s character is he will basically be playing himself as “an aging and imperious lord of a British manor.”
Irons recently starred on Showtime’s The Borgias as Rodrigo Borgia, but he’s mainly known for his roles in film such as 1990’s Reversal of Fortune, for which he won the Oscar for as well as Alfred in Batman v Superman and Justice League, Dead Ringers, and for us ’90s kids – Scar from The Lion King.
Watchmen has already been adapted for the big screen back in 2009. The film was directed by Zack Snyder and starred Jackie Earle Haley, Malin Akerman, Patrick Wilson, Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Matthew Goode, and Billy Crudup.
