Kevin Smith Announces ‘Comic Book Men’ Canceled after 7 Seasons on AMC

Much to the surprise of the show’s fans, on Sunday night, Kevin Smith announced via his social media pages that the fan favorite series Comic Book Men had been canceled at AMC after seven seasons.

The series which starred Smith, Walt Flanagan, Bryan Johnson, Ming Chen, and Mike Zapcic, put a spotlight on the collector’s culture and always featured some pretty cool pop culture finds mixed in with guest stars who were often living legends in the industry.

Smith broke the news on Twitter saying that he and the guys held a “Viking funeral” for the newly canceled show on their latest podcast looking back at happier times. He said, “After 96 episodes, the @ComicBookMenAMC are now the Cancelled Book Men. On a new #SModcast, hear Walt, Bry, Ming, Mike & I hold a Viking funeral for our @AMC_TV show and reminisce about the happy highlights of seven seasons!”

Fans responded to Smith’s tweet expressing their sorrow over the lost show. Many even said watching an episode felt like they were hanging out and geeking out with their own set of nerdy friends. Some are citing the show’s timeslot as the reason for its cancelation. Comic Book Men aired late nights on Sunday, usually, around 12 am EST after The Walking Dead and Talking Dead. That airtime would vary if the preceding shows happened to be extended for any reason.

Fans aren’t quite ready to give up on their favorite Secret Stash Store just yet. Some are calling for other networks, such as Netflix, Hulu, or Syfy, begging them to pick up the series for additional seasons. It’s possible that another network might be interested, but we’ll have to wait and see what happens.

We’re sad to see the show go, however, just from looking at the fan reaction alone, it’s clear to see that Comic Book Men has certainly left its mark on pop culture history and fandom.
