Kevin Feige Explains New ‘Spider-Man’ Title ‘Far From Home’

No longer do we need to call the new Spider-Man movie the Untitled Spider-Man: Homecoming Sequel. Thanks to Tom Holland’s inability to keep a secret we all learned that Peter Parker’s follow-up film will be titled Far From Home and now Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige is giving fans more scoop about the title’s meaning as well as when the movie is going to start shooting.

While speaking with Collider earlier this week, Feige gave an update on the filming schedule for three highly anticipated Marvel films – Captain Marvel, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3and Spider-Man.

“James Gunn has delivered a draft and we begin official pre-production on that very, very soon. It’ll be shooting early next year. Captain Marvel finishes in about two weeks, Spider-Man starts in about two weeks, and then Guardians 3 will start early next year.”

So, with filming picking up in the next couple of weeks, fans will soon be trying to figure out as much as they can about the elusive sequel, but Feige was able to hint that Peter will, in fact, be setting on a globetrotting adventure as they will be filming in London.

“We start filming early July,” Feige said. “We film in London. We shot first film in Atlanta. And we shoot a lot of films in London but there’s another reason we’re shooting in London which is, yes, Spidey, of course, will spend some time in New York, but he’ll spend some time in other parts of the globe” Feige confirmed to i09.

London certainly makes sense when you consider the title is Far From Home, which for Peter Parker is technically in New York, but according to Feige, there’s so much more to the title than just where it’s being filmed. Much like Homecoming, they chose the Far From Home for its multiple meanings.

“Well, I mean, sure, let the speculation begin. That’s always fun. We like [the title] of course because it ties into Homecoming, not just keeping that word going, which we like and we liked it more than Homecoming 2, but that notion of ‘home’ is a word that has dual meanings we’d like to continue with this [Marvel Cinematic Universe] version of Spider-Man. So, Far From Home has multiple meanings,” he told CinemaBlend.

We also know that the movie will be taking place “minutes” after Avengers 4 ends, and taking into consideration where Peter Parker ended up for a majority of Infinity War, we think that it’s safe to say he’s already pretty Far From Home.  Spider-Man: Far From Home will of course star Tom Holland as Peter Parker, in addition to Zendaya, Jacob Batalon, Marisa Tomei, and a rumored Jake Gyllenhaal who is in talks to play notorious villain Mysterio. The film is swinging into theaters on July 5, 2019.
