Back in March of this year, it looked as if the remake of The Crow had finally found its feet and was about to take flight towards a theatrical release. Sony had officially announced that the film helmed by Corin Hardy and starring Game of Thrones and Aquaman star Jason Momoa would be landing in theaters on October 11, 2019.

On Thursday, however, that momentum came to a screeching halt. Deadline first reported speculations that, with just five weeks left until production was to begin in Budapest, Sony was close to exiting as a worldwide distributor. In addition to Sony’s near exit, both Hardy and Momoa were thought to have withdrawn themselves from the project.

Momoa later confirmed via his Instagram account that he was no longer involved with The Crow remake at this time. Momoa wrote, “I’ve waited 8 years to play this dream role. I love you @corinhardy and @sonypictures unfortunately I may have to wait 8 more. Not our team. But I swear I will. James O’Barr sorry to let you down I won’t on the next. This film needs to be set free. And to the fans. Sorry. I can’t play anything but what this film deserves and it needs love. I’m ready when it’s right. Love u Corin aloha j”

The film has been the subject of setbacks and speculation for quite some time now. Momoa was set to play the role of Eric Draven which was previously iconically portrayed by Brandon Lee though, back in December of 2017, he told a crowd during a convention panel that he had not yet officially signed on for the film. When asked if he had started filming the movie yet, he said, “Have I started filming The Crow yet? I have not even signed on the dotted line yet. I’m sure when those things go through, the world will know. But it would be an honor if it did happen.”

Hopefully, Momoa will get that honor in the future! What do you think about Corin Hardy and Jason Momoa exiting The Crow? Let us know what you think in the comment section below.
