‘The Originals’ Season 5 Episode 6 ‘What, Will, I, Have, Left’ Recap

Everyone has a role to play in the game Greta (Nadine Lewington) is playing with the Mikaelson’s. She travels to France with a sad story of woe that she shares with Elijah (Daniel Gillies) about her poor young son Roman (Jedidiah Goodacre) who is in love with Hope Mikaelson (Danielle Rose Russell) and when Klaus (Joseph Morgan) finds out he will kill Roman. Of course, she leads Elijah to believe that he is the only one that can kill Klaus to keep her son alive. Elijah agrees to return to New Orleans to fight Klaus because of his love for Antionette (Jaime Murray).

Roman being the dutiful son continues his role in the game by leading Hope to an abandoned house where the “witch” who is supposed to help with the binding spell to bind Hope’s werewolf side. However, once they enter Hope finds her mother Haley (Phoebe Tonkin) tied to chair. As she turns around he slips on shackles that keep her from using her magic. Hope is trying to make sense of what is going on Roman tells her that his mother just wants to stop her from making more hybrids. That once she binds her werewolf side that Greta will let them go but Haley says that she knows that Greta will kill her and Hope but Roman still believes that his mom is good.

For the first time in a long time, Hope and Haley have mother and daughter time. Unfortunately, it is in shackles and tied to a chair, but they are together. Hope apologizes for everything, but Haley tells her it is not her fault. Greta had this planned for a long time. Hope comes up with a plan to help them escape but it is dangerous. They agree to the binding spell so Roman calls in their “witch”. Haley goes through the binding spell. As soon as the spell works Haley breaks free and bites the witch. Hope starts to race for the door and realizes that Haley is no longer a hybrid and cannot be in the daylight and cannot leave with her. Haley tells her to leave because she is what Greta is afraid of. Hope is who they have wanted this entire time. The good news is as the binding spell turned Haley, Freya (Riley Voelkel) and her witches were able to locate her with their spell. However, Hope was not able to leave before Greta arrives. When Roman tells Greta that Haley and Hope will do the binding spell so they do not have to kill them. She informs him that unfortunately, they will have to kill them after all. She gives him the stake to kill Hope.

The ultimate showdown occurs outside the house when the brothers come face to face to battle for a family but sadly for different ones this time. Elijah came to fight for Antionette’s family while Klaus was there for Hope and Haley. Klaus reminds him that he once loved Haley, but Elijah just tells him that he doesn’t remember her or that life. The fight starts on the outside as Greta decides that if Roman won’t stake Hope then she will do it herself. Haley forever the fighter and the mother she has always been, charges Greta and the two start to fight. Greta pins Haley against the wall with her hand against her throat and her hand inside her chest about to rip out her heart with a smirk on her face. Klaus and Elijah break through the door and Elijah put a stake through Klaus’ chest. Haley stands there barely breathing watching her daughter unconscious on the floor and the father of her daughter dying. Haley takes a few last breaths, reaches inside for all her inner strength as a crescent, woman and mother she breaks Greta’s fingers with her daylight ring off her hand, grabs her and tosses both of their bodies out into the sun and they both burst into flames.  Klaus watches in horror as the woman who has become his family and the mother of his daughter died selflessly to protect him and their child.

So as I write this recap I am in tears.  After everything they have done to find Haley this season, they lost her. WE lost her.  I am so heartbroken for Klaus, for Hope and even for Elijah. I know that Elijah doesn’t currently remember her and as she was in flames he was more concerned about Greta but when he becomes TRUE Elijah again and I have faith that he will, I know he will mourn her death as well even more so because he will know that he could have helped prevent it.  I am proud of her because she did what any true mother would do, she laid her life on the line for her daughters.  However, I am worried how this will weigh on Hope but I am so glad they had that small amount of time together.   I do know this I wouldn’t want to be on the bad side of the Mikaelson’s after this major loss…….
