‘Fast and Furious’ to Become a Netflix Animated Series

It looks like the Toretto family is gearing up to live their life a quarter mile at a time once again, but this time on Netflix. The streaming giant just announced a new animated series set in the fast-paced street-racing world of the Fast and the Furious, making it the first series to come out of the deal between Netflix and DreamWorks Animation Television.

According to EW, the series will follow a new character named “Tony Toretto, who follows in the footsteps of his cousin Dom (Vin Diesel’s character in the films). Tony and his friends are recruited by the government to infiltrate an elite racing league they believe serves as a front for a sinister crime organization.” Vin Diesel, Neal Moritz, and Chris Morgan, who all worked on the live action films, will be serving as producers alongside showrunners Tim Hedrick and Bret Haaland.

“We are thrilled to take our fantastic partnership with DreamWorks Animation to the next level with new opportunities from the vast library of Universal Pictures. The Fast & Furious franchise is a global phenomenon beloved by audiences of all ages, and we can’t wait to get started on the new animated series that will capture the action, heart, humor and global appeal of the feature films,” said Netflix VP Melissa Cobb.

As of now, the series doesn’t have any sort of release date yet but there are currently two films in the pipeline for the film franchise, including a spinoff film starring Dwayne Johnson and Jason Statham.
