What I Love Wednesday: Music and Jordan Woods-Robinson

Welcome back to What I love Wednesday! This Wednesday I’m happy to talk about why I love Jordan Woods-Robinson. He is best known for playing Eric Raleigh The Walking Dead, but I’m going to focus more on his music here.

Walker Stalker Con

I first met Jordan at the Walker Stalker Con Atlanta. He put on a concert with the release of his Anthem album (try saying that 3xs in a row). The concert was fabulous. He sang with his wife and explained some of the songs, including the song he used to propose to his wife. The concert was so energetic and fun. I was never a fan of the fiddle before this concert and I gained a new appreciation for the instrument.

Of course, I bought his CD and we discussed music and art. He is the nicest person I have ever met. I was so moved by his presence and energy that I went back the following year to see him. That interaction I cherished even more.

He looked at me and asked, “You look familiar, have we met before?” As a fan, that was one of the best moments I have ever had. I told him that I visited him the previous year and he remembered me! We took tons of selfies and I am so grateful to have met such a genuine person. He’s also probably the most well-dressed man I’ve met.

Anthem

Anthem was released during a Walker Stalker Con and Jordan held a release party/ concert in honor of it.  Each song on the album is an anthem and they are all relatable. The overall vibe is a little bit of everything with an emphasis on folk rock. I was going to list my favorite songs from the album, but then I’d have to list the whole thing.

What really struck me was the fact that he isn’t sharing the lyrics anywhere, not even online. These songs are his anthem, his story and I respect that. What I love about that is that we as listeners can put our own story into the songs.

This album also gave me a new appreciation for the fiddle. I guess I just hadn’t listened to enough songs featuring the instrument to really appreciate it.

Blue Man Group

Who doesn’t love the Blue Man Group? I first saw a show when I visited Chicago with my high school concert band. I fell in love with it. The sound, the energy, the art, everything about the show was magnificent. It’s no surprise that Jordan is a part of this. His energy and musicality and quirkiness mesh so well with the Blue Men.

“I was cast as a Blue Man within three weeks after graduating college… It was a perfect marriage for me because I thought, as a musician, I could pick up an instrument and start playing with it. They have a lot of custom-made instruments in the show. … I am thinking like a musician, but the Blue Man character is communicating through music which is the universal language.”

This quote sums up why I love music and what makes Blue Man Group so great.

These are only a few of the reasons I love Jordan Woods-Robinson and his music. I could talk forever about how his music has affected me, but we’d be here for quite a while. I look forward to what he’s up to next both in music and acting and wish him luck in all of his endeavors.
